on research leave! 🌱✨
January 15, 2026

I’m excited to be on research leave from 1st January to 30th June 2026. 🎊🌱✨
This period will provide me with some dedicated time and headspace for reading, writing, learning, wrapping up some projects and exploring some new directions. These are precious months for sustained, deep focus which is harder to come by when juggling teaching, admin and other responsibilities.
To help with planning and making the most of this next stretch, I was looking at what I did last time I had research leave. During that period I worked on my book manuscript, explored media recomposition with the School for Poetic Computation, co-edited an issue on critical technical practices, co-authored a chapter on #amazonfires and the online composition of ecological politics, worked on collaborative research to situate forest restoration and forest soundscaping exhibitions, amongst other things. I had time to read, write, learn, grow collaborations and do some research trips.
For this year’s research leave I’ll be focusing on:
- book events for public data cultures (if you’d like to host one let me know!)
- studio time to explore intersections between internet art and internet research
- reading, research and writing on practices and cultures of recomposition
Amidst all going on these days, I’m hoping these months will also help to make space, to be present and to find ways in which communities and practices I spend time with can support collective responses to the troubling times we’re in.
While I’m away on leave I’m most grateful to colleagues in my department for suppporting our current students, as well as to Zeena, co-director of the Centre for Digital Culture, for keeping things warm.
