public data cultures at Centre for Critical Data Practices, Aarhus University

Thanks to Magdalena Regina Tyzlik-Carver for the invitation to give a book talk on Public Data Cultures with the Centre for Critical Data Practices at Aarhus University.

It was great to have another moment to catch up with the Centre for Critical Data Practices after giving a talk on recomposing data-nature-cultures there a couple of years ago.

I love Magda’s work on fermenting data - working with “microbes, vegetables, minerals, jars, sensors” to “reclaim data a common practice” and to “speculate and create ways to live together”. And it was great to hear the latest about Daniela Agostinho’s project on reparative encounters and artistic engagements with colonial archives.

For the talk, I did a walkthrough and short readings from the book on data as cultural material, medium of participation and site of transnational politics before looking at chapters on “missing data and making data” and “critical data practices”.

Magda had also invited me to share a bit about my artistic practice recomposing data, methods and infrastructures. I briefly showed datanotfound, everything at the forest park, vclip and the supercollider scripts for forestscapes.

It was good to see and catch up with Janne, Blake, Søren and other friends, colleagues, MA and PhD students who joined. I appreciated Mariam Khaled for organising, sharing, making and putting up the poster - and for having the most absorbing, maximalist office.
