BOOK TALK: PUBLIC DATA CULTURES
Book Talk - Public Data Cultures (Polity, 2025), with Jonathan Gray (King’s College London)
The SMU Research Group and the Department of Journalism and Publishing (CJE) at the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (ECA-USP) are welcoming Jonathan Gray, from King’s College London, for a discussion on his brand-new book, just released by Polity Publishing this past month.
This book talk brings together researchers, students, and practitioners interested in how data shapes public life. In Public Data Cultures, Jonathan Gray examines the social, political, and cultural formations that emerge around data infrastructures, exploring how publics engage with, contest, and reimagine data in contemporary societies.
The session offers an opportunity to discuss the book’s key concepts, reflect on current debates in digital methods and data politics, and connect these ideas to ongoing research at CJE-ECA-USP and beyond.
Please feel free to join us either in person or online.
🗓 December, 4th, 2025, 2:00 – 3:00 PM (UTC-3), São Paulo, Brazil
