talks on public data cutures and data journalism in Milan, 22nd May 2025

I was invited to talk about Public Data Cultures book at the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca on 22nd May 2025.

Liliana Bounegru opened the event with a talk on critical data practices and intersectional feminist approaches to data, drawing on the The Data Journalism Handbook: Towards a Critical Data Practice that we co-edited.

I gave a preview and some readings from Public Data Cultures - particularly focusing on chapters on data as cultural material and medium of participation, as well as chapters on critical data practices.

The event was part of a series on “open data: participation, understanding and knowledge across society and technology” associated with a collaborative 3-year research project on open government data.
