Introduction to Digital Culture and Society

From the module description (2026–2027):
This core module introduces students systematically to the developments and implications of digital technologies on contemporary culture and society. We will examine the potential of digital technologies to reshape different areas such as work, governance, politics of identity and intimacies, health, transport, finance, journalism, marketing and governance among others. Students will learn about key influences of the digital on identity and culture, communication and institutional practices. They will study how digital technologies are being used to gain and distribute information and power. They will conduct practical research projects and learn to conceptually develop and think through the implications of digital technologies. And they will explore current critical and theoretical debates around digital culture and ethical issues that arise. This is a fundamentally interdisciplinary MA suitable for students from technical and non-technical background interested in the forefront of digital technology.
